If you have a diamond engagement ring or diamond wedding band, I am sure that you remember the original luster or sparkle. A diamond engagement ring or diamond wedding band can lose its luster over time. Ideally, we should remove diamond jewelry while showering or cleaning. When that diamond engagement ring or diamond wedding band is new, we are more inclined to protect the shine. Once the newness wears off, the tendency to become more relaxed takes place. Regardless of age, diamond jewelry must be properly cared for.
There are many quick and easy ways to keep your diamond engagement rings clean. You have the option of buying professional jewelry cleaning solution and allowing the diamond to soak. There is also the option of having the jewelry professionally cleaned by a jeweler. On the other hand, you may choose the least expensive approach, and clean diamond jewelry using a home concoction.
Here is an easy way to clean your diamond jewelry at home. Supplies:
• Dish Bowl • Dishwater Detergent • Old Toothbrush • Soft Cloth • Warm Water • Windex (optional)
Step 1: Fill a small dish bowl with warm soapy water. Avoid harsh chemicals such as laundry detergent or bath gels. Dish washing detergent is gentle and more appropriate.
Step 2: Remove diamond rings, bracelets, and necklaces. Place the jewelry in the soapy water. If this is the first cleaning, allowing the jewelry to soak for at least 30 minutes. Subsequent cleanings only require a soaking time of 10 minutes.
Step 3: Remove jewelry from water. Using a small toothbrush, gently scrub the diamond jewelry and metal (gold, silver, platinum).
Step 4: Rinse the diamond with hot water.
Step 5: If necessary, repeat steps 2 – 4.
Step 6: For extra shine, soak the diamond jewelry in Windex following each cleaning.
