Paulette Goddard Paulette Goddard multi-talented actress, philanthropist and collector of fine jewelry.
She was Ziegfeld's girl on the cresent moon, a darling of the silver screen, favorite of Hollywood leading actors, owner of an antique shop and collector of fine jewelry.
It is said she inspired the popular charm bracelet and indeed, she was given many beautiful charms by admirers and friends.
While married to Charlie Chaplin, she received a lovely 18K gold bracelet with matching earrings. They were emerald flowers and pave-set diamonds.
In 1939 she lost the leading role of Scarlett O'Hara to Vivien Leigh. The financier of the movie sent her a little present to cheer her up--a gold monkey with a 5 carat diamond in it's tail.
She was not just an actress, she was a business woman and philanthropist too. In 1947 she opened a successful antique shop. On her death in 1990, she left more that $20 million for scholarships to film and drama students at New York University. This money has also gone on to fund university's Remarque Institute, created to support and promote the study and discussion of Europe.
In case you didn't know, pave-setting is all sparkle. Like a metal honeycomb, small stones are placed close together in tiny holes of the frame. All you see is diamonds since no metal is visible to the eye. This setting reflects quality, elegance, and brilliance.
