What is with the diamond wedding band? |

I've never been a traditional person, and have always wondered in the first place why we have a tradition of spending ludicrous amounts of money on shiny things, like the diamond wedding band.
Back in ages past, marriage was a sign of two people getting together out of love to create a family and further the community. Wedding presents existed, but were in the form of useful things like food, clothing or tools to help hunt or grow for more food. Although we boast how far we have come from those times, I think in many ways we have retrogressed away from the things that really matter.
If you are going to get married - do yourself a favor and skip the diamond wedding band. Get something more interesting - like a birthstone or engraving, or something that will mean more than just a pricetag. Life can be long or short, but regardless the things that matter most are those that are memories and nothing more.
So, skip the diamond wedding band and invest in something that is more fulfilling. Diamonds are forever, but your life is not.
