Although I shy away from Facebook, I recently started using it a little more and, of course, got the pleasure of reading everyone's "status" of what they are doing now or whatnot. In that regard, one of my friends (a girl) had set her status to "...HAS A BRAND NEW RING!!!". To my curiosity, I checked her profile and she did, in fact, had a brand new diamond engagement ring - she was engaged! It was all very strange, because I knew her and she was definitely nowhere near getting engaged (she was single just about two years ago) - and here she was now with her brand new diamond engagement ring.

So, the question for me is - I guess when is it right to get the diamond engagement ring? I never really found a purpose to it since you either get married or you don't, and an engagement doesn't provide any benefits, really. Why buy a ring when you don't need one? Perhaps for the girl there's a benefit of added security in the relationship, but I don't know.
