If you purchased a diamond engagement ring, a diamond stud earring, diamond wedding band, any other diamond jewelry or loose gem diamonds between January 1, 1994 through March 1, 2006 while in the United States, you can file a claim to receive a percentage back off the cost of the diamond jewelry. It doesn't matter if you bought the diamond engagement ring or other jewelry as a gift, you can still receive back a percentage of your purchase for the diamond jewelry. There has been a lawsuit filed against DeBeers, who is the largest supplier of rough diamonds in the world. The plaintiffs have accused DeBeers of unlawfully monopolizing the supply of diamonds, conspiring to fix, raise, and control diamond prices, and issuing false and misleading advertising.
The proposed class action settlement is currently pending in the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey, so any payment is pending the results of the fairness hearing in April. To be considered for payment from the class action settlement you must file a claim before May 19, 2008 on your diamond engagement ring or other diamond purchases.
